During this holiday, houses are decorated, nativity scenes are made, gifts are bought, and everyone is just a little nicer and happier this time of year. Each country's decorations differ slightly. The Philippines' major decoration is a bamboo parol or a star lantern. The United States' major decoration is the Christmas tree. Prayer in the Philippines and the United States is very important during this time. At six o'clock everyday, a bell is rung telling the people to stop and pray the Angelus (Devine and Braganti 206). Midnight mass is offered in both countries and many people attend it (Jenkins 55). Other Filipino holidays are New Year's Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Labor Day, Independence Day, Philippine-American Friendship Day, Thanksgiving Day, All Saints' Day, National Heroes Day, and Rizal Day.
