How To Write A Reflective Essay On Public Speaking Class

Improved Essays
I’ll openly admit that I was terrified at first of the thought of taking another public speaking class. After having taken it in high school, I believed my time taking such a course was over. But I was wrong. I was told that it was a college requirement and was absolutely essential that I take another public speaking course. Fast forward to now and here I am, finally having taken the class in what is now the summer before my senior year of college. With the class over now it is time to reflect. As is the case with a great many things I can say that public speaking wasn’t as bad at I thought it would be. In actuality it was enjoyable and dare I say it, fun. Sure it was bitter work, requiring long hours of research during the summer when I am …show more content…
And yet, as the videos show my voice is clear and commanding. When I spoke to the audience I was speaking with lucidity and precision. Over the course of the class my voice only improved as I became more comfortable speaking. In high school I tended to stutter and mumble during presentations but this wasn’t the case here. I will conclude this reflection by offering you my thanks. Thank you for helping me and giving me very useful feedback throughout my four speeches. You have shown me that public speaking is something that should not be feared. Rather, we should embrace our voices and use them to tell whatever is meaningful to us .I promise that I will take what I have learned and apply it to future presentations. And though they won’t read this I would also like to thank my fellow classmates. You have all done excellent work and have expressed utter sincerity in your words. Your speeches have made me laugh, cry, and feel something that I can only wish to have felt in other classes. You shared with me and others your personal stories and I thank you for allowing me to listen. I wish you all the best and hope that you as well will continue to speak from your

    1. I believe there were some positive aspects of my speech. Firstly, I was not a nervous when speaking in front of the audience. This allowed me to have the speech flow smoother than last time. I had a lovely experience during the socratic seminar held in class. Prior to this seminar, I have participated in one in my Earth Science class. Words are dangerous, words travel to the very heart of a person and change how they look at the world. When presenting to a group of people, using normal conversational words will not be enough. In history there has been many great speeches; two great ones were given by John F. Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

It has been nine years since I have attended college and eleven since I have taken an English course. The first English Composition class I took in 2004, was very dry, and the expectations from what I remember were extremely low. We read excerpts, wrote reflection papers, and that pretty much sums it up. When I reviewed the classes needed for my current degree of interests, I immediately convinced myself English Composition would be the easiest way for me to ease myself back into college. My expectations were low only because of what I experienced before, and I felt this was the place to start in order to help bring my confidence up about returning to college.…

I’m sitting down in my English classroom, waiting for my teacher to call me up. When I hear my name being called; a rush of panic runs through my whole body, my heart starts to race, my hands start getting sweaty, and when I opened my mouth not a single word comes out. Public speaking was a challenge because I always feared people would judge me over what I had to say and it became one of my insecurities. During my junior year in high school, I decided to take speech and debate so that I could gain the confidence to speak in front of an audience. I had participate in Redlands East High School Speech Competition where I talked about how we should not judge anyone under any circumstances, using homelessness as an example.…

I strongly dislike public speaking, but I am working to improve my skills in that area because I know how much it’s needed in the workplace. There were many of my classmates who are graduating at the same time as me and it seems like we all have a lot to improve. We need more practice and more willing to put what we have learned in the past into practice. I know that during our college careers, we have heard from different people about what we should do when we are giving a presentation, but it looks like we did not take it seriously and now we are facing the consequences of giving a presentation like a high school student and not as an almost professional…

I thought this lecture was interesting. There were three guest speakers – a white conservative man (Craig _____), a LGBT Hispanic woman (Sherriff Valdez), and a black man (Ashton Cumberbatch). Normally I would never point out race – that is not a big deal to me whatsoever. However, in this case I am. The three speakers gave excellent speeches about the justice system, understanding different cultures, and “getting comfortable with the uncomfortable” in regards to race issues.…
