Public Service Personal Statement Essay

Due to my commitment to public service, it has always been an honor for me to have the opportunity to serve others. As a result, my education has contributed to my biggest passion of aiding others. I have focused my efforts the past few years contributing to aiding women and children in the field of interpersonal violence. My interest in this field began a few summers ago, when I served as an intern at Domestic Violence/Child Abuse court under the District attorney, in Cumberland County, North Carolina. As a result, I became involved with my undergraduate university’s interpersonal violence prevention office, the Collaboration for Assault Response Education (CARE). I was trained as a peer educator to perform presentations around campus in classrooms, clubs, and for Greek life on topics such as consent, how to build healthy relationships, and how to be an active bystander. These experiences have shaped my career goals in helping me to understand the value of working in collaboration with, not for, those in need. The skills and insights gained in working at the community level have been valuable, and contributed to raising my level social consciousness and political awareness in a positive manner that urges me to continue in public service. As such, my career goals consist of either becoming a public diplomat for the U.S State department, or an International Professional Officer for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Both positions that require the ability to work in a multicultural team, and an appreciation and commitment to public service. It is my hopes that through continued efforts, hard work, and determination I will achieve my career goals and maintain this level of commitment to public service.
