Not only students, but also parents, benefit from many sources, such as: free school bus transportation to and from school, as well as an after school program where students whose parents work throughout the day can stay, until their parents are able to pick them up(“Pros and Cons of Public School Attendance”). Public schools also offer opportunities to students who need help. Reduced-priced lunches, along with academic assistance, is available to students who are under certain conditions(Chen). If parents choose to admit their child into a public school system, they are assured that the teachers are certified and qualify for the position(Chen). Therefore, parents know that their child is getting a good education. The way teachers choose to educate their students, prepares them for life beyond their high school career: “How students are educated today will substantially determine the kind of society we all will live in tomorrow”(Resnick). However, students who attend public schools are exposed to different races, cultures, and religions everyday. Parents also choose to homeschool their children based on the fear that their child will get involved with drugs, alcohol, or violence. They feel as though their children would be safer at home(“Public School vs. Homeschool, What are the Differences?”). Although getting involved with drugs, alcohol, bullying, and violence at a public school is possible, students are able to deal with the pressures and learn how to get out of dangerous situations, which will prepare them for life beyond college.
