They state that the elementary school curriculum is performance based using best practices and aligned with the Michigan Curriculum Framework. Their middle schools have twelve week exploratory courses or electives and they boast that they have stimulating learning environments. High Schools have emphasis on mastering core subjects, there are also opportunities for more in-depth studies including Advanced Placement Classes. The school does not address these statistics at all on their web site, but they do have a detailed code of conduct policy which spells out expected behaviors and punishments if those behaviors are not followed. Scouring the internet for facts, found that City-Data has that in 2006 there were two expulsions for violence and two expulsions for dangerous weapons. Interviews with current and former students indicates that violence is prevalent on a regular basis, but teachers and school administrators often turn a blind eye to it. There are several alternatives to public school in this area. Namely charter schools. Because there were so many, it was decided to only compare one school. Paramount Charter Academy is free k-12 public charter school. This school has 469 students, of which 70.2% are white which is similar in numbers to the rest of the state of Michigan. Only 40% of the student body receive free and reduced lunches but they have a reading proficiency rate of 71.0%. This school is drastically different than the regular public school
