Public schools in America provide opportunities for all the children in the United States, and people from all over the world come here for a better education, but it’s undeniable the school system has flaws. Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), is a survey used to rank 15 year olds from the 64 participating countries worldwide. In the most recent data (conducted in 2012) Shanghai, China had the #1 scores in mathematics, reading, and science and on the contrary the United States came in below average in mathematics, and close to average in reading and science. In the United States colleges and universities are thriving in fact 18 of the 24 top Universities in the world reside in the US, so why are high schools and teens not

Teachers contribute to student’s lives and attitudes towards school. Not every student will take in information the same way but teachers should be able to present the information and help those who need assistance. Teachers are vital to our future & economy, from planning each day and grading papers their jobs are not easy and those 3 months of break aren’t exactly spent on the beach relaxing, with frequent new state curriculum requirements it can be difficult to personalize the learning experience for students. “We have to attract the best and brightest, then train them, support them, keep them,” says Rebecca Pringle, secretary-treasurer of the National Education Association, teachers are equivalent to scientist and engineers as they shape the future but aren 't paid like scientist and engineers, to appeal to talented people to pursue teaching, the income needs to be more appealing as well, teaching programs also need to be more competitive and hands on as medical school or law school. In a survey 2 in 3 teachers reported that schools of education do not prepare teachers for the realities of the classroom. Sonja Stenfors, 23 is a teacher in training in Finland, which is one of the leading places in education. Stenfors describes her experience of becoming a teacher as very difficult and rigorous; she did a program for a year before starting school to become a teacher, which was basically helping manage a class of 14 kids with behavior issues. After the year ended she started to apply to a University and the process consisted of reading, testing & an interview, and in Finland only 10 percent of applicants for elementary education in 2010 got accepted and Stenfors was one of them (Amanda Ripley) this is to make sure applicants have the motivation and drive to teach. Students are required to be in school so why not make sure they are provided with the best educators with experience and skills
