How do I begin to explain the world today? It’s funny, when I consider how advanced American society is, yet at the same time fail to recognize some of our real problems. For example, in the past 15 years, we’ve experienced a rise in the number of mass shootings and gun violence in the United States. From the murders at Fort Hood in 2009, to the tragic murders of 20 school aged children and six adults at Sandy Hook….in the period from 2007-2013, the FBI has documented 16.4 incidents per year. When I ask why this has happened, my first response is we need more gun laws, a unilateral ban on firearms across the United States.…

Jensen, Great post! A quick disclaimer, my response is heavily opinionated. It really bothers me how heavily gun proponents depend on the constitution for their arguments of why gun control would have a negative impact on society. It's quite baffling that even the majority of NRA members support reasonable, common-sense gun regulations and yet we still can't seem to get appropriate laws passed. Is the NRA not listening to its own members?…

Brandon, I really enjoyed reading your post as you brought up some ideas that others did not. Like you, I believe that the next few decades will be much more dangerous for police officers. Juveniles are becoming more violent and terrorist attacks, both foreign and domestic based, are occurring in America. Instead of more gun control, penalties for illegal possession of firearms need to be increased as more gun control would keep firearms from those who can legally possess them.…

Josseline Raudez Professor Marlene Cueto English 1102 15 July 2015 Gun control policy and school shootings in the U.S. School shootings in America is becoming quite the epidemic, far more so here than in any other advanced country in the world. The solution? Gun control policy. After a surge in school shootings in the 90s, researchers looked for ways to circumvent this issue. From this came the idea of gun control: the idea that you can actively diminish the amount of murders per capita by controlling the amount of weapons on the street.…

Case 1: Highway Safety Improvements David Weber wanted to install some new signal that were known to reduce accidents. There was only $50 000 at his disposal that afforded him to implement them at only one intersection. David was faced with a challenge of having to choose between two intersections, a rural and an urban intersection. This case can be argued from an act utilitarian perspective using cost-benefit analysis that the course of action that produces the greatest benefit relative to cost is the one that should be chosen (Harris et al., 2009).…

It is ironic that such can be found in a town that has grown up around the Hanford sight and farming opportunities.…
