Importance Of Jobs In Public Relations

When looking into the variety of currently available jobs in Public Relations, I was surprised by what positions I was interested in. Of the 3 positions I selected for this assignment, all 3 jobs are in the world of music. I have always thought that I would end up in sports, but it quickly became evident that though there were a significant amount of jobs available in sports, the majority of them were more closely related to marketing, whereas I am more interested in media and campaign development. This prompted me to look outside of the sports industry, where I was surprised to find numerous positions I was interested in. I will have a bachelor 's degree in Public Relations, and even though it’s not one of their preferred majors I think Public Relations is an excellent fit. Written communication skills and experience writing web content and for publications are requirements that I do already have. I currently help develop and write content for the sports team I work for, that goes on our website, social media sites, and in mailers. I definitely have the ability to be self motivated, every job I’ve ever had I sought out on my own and I’m not afraid to work independently. My job in NKU Admissions has taught me to prioritize, which is the last required skill. Everyday there are always multiple things to get done and it is up to me to monitor the work of my superiors to know when they will need different tasks completed by me in order to successfully complete their daily tasks. These skills I have gained interacting with different media channels and editing online and print content with the Cincinnati Saints, and my everyday interaction with full and part time staff at NKU through my on campus jobs in Admissions and Learning Assistance Programs. There are also some of these desired qualifications that I do not have. I have never worked with Vocus, which is computer software and I do not have any experience working in the arts, or any substantial knowledge of theater or art. I am, however confident in my ability to learn on the job and I have no doubts I’ll be able to familiarize myself with Vocus as I have with SAP and other programs for my work-study. I also have interests in both theater and art so I doubt it will be too tasking of a job to pick up an understanding of the university’s respective

My interest in public relations was sparked in high school with the clubs and activities in which I was involved. Being the head of prom committee and an executive member of the student council, taught me how to plan and execute events. Serving as a student representative on the principal’s council required me to bring the issues of the public to light and find a way to resolve them. In addition, being both and editor and writer for the school newspaper and yearbook required me to always keep up to date on current events. The common thing that was important for all these activities was the ability to communicate with both my superiors and peers.…
