In the lecture titled, Public policy in nutrition: Where does science fit in?, Dr. Lupton explains how science is used to help create public policy, specifically Dietary Guidelines. The video looks at a number of questions such as “What is our national nutrition policy?” and “How does science fit it?” (Lupton, 2010). Dr. Lupton answers these questions plus others as she explains the process of product labeling from start to finish using dietary fiber and added sugar as two examples. The process of food package labeling is broken down using basic science as a foundation.
