I feel like they rarely ask, “how can we make the government better for the people we are representing.” This rarely happens because of the sheer nature of partisan politics. Politicians are also highly swayed by lobbyists and large financial contributors. This leads to further distancing from the wants and needs of the average American citizen and puts more emphasis on the wants of the wealthy. This increases public disdain towards the government because they feel like their voice is not getting heard. Many times congressman are swamped by the large numbers of varying interest groups wanting their time and support. Balancing this with fundraising, meetings, travel, event planning, campaigning (and other duties) can distance themselves from the needs of the average American.
