The cholera epidemic in the 1800’s impacted populations by means of a common contaminated water source and a lack of knowledge. After Jon Snow debunked the idea that cholera was a miasma and persuaded authorities to remove the Broad Street Pump handle, population health improved (Frerichs, n.d.). To improve populations affected by unsafe and inadequate sanitation systems resulting in cholera, it would be best to invest in education. Although the effects of education investments are not immediate, the economic effects of having an educated workforce and population drastically improves the long term success of developing countries and can drastically improve and balance the disparities between social and physical infrastructure. The investment in education is also multi-functional.
