According to Truglio-Londrigan and Lewenson one strategy the public health nurse utilizes is outreach, “locating populations at risk and providing information about the nature of the concern” (2013, p.225). The population at risk is the children and the concern is their unhealthy food choices and inactivity. My proposal is to engage students after school in a physical activity and afterward introduce them to a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables for a snack. People don’t focus on the fact that they are “exercising” when they are having fun. It would be important to expose the kids to a variety of physical activities to increase their participation with anticipation of what activity is in store for the afternoon.
