The article addresses the very prevalent health problem of childhood obesity. Childhood obesity has become a focus of many public health interventions. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners have created guidelines related to the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity. Many public health initiatives have been designed to address the problem, such as the Child and Adolescent Trial of Cardiovascular Health (CATCH). While there are public health initiatives designed to address childhood obesity, rates reveal that there are health disparities between children of migrant farmworkers and other populations. Health disparities should not just a public health issue; it should be the issue of the whole community. I work at a before and after school program at a bilingual school outside of Milwaukee. It is a low-income, low-preforming school. My job is to lead physical activities and promote active lifestyles with the children. The children are not children of migrant farm workers, but many of the parents do have to travel far for their jobs. Aside from physical education in school, the program that I work at is the only other physical activity many of the children get. The children do not have the chance to play on sports teams, as their parents do not have the time or money. In some cases, the neighborhood the child lives in is too dangerous for them to go outside and
