When talking to friends and family about their college careers, a commonality in the conversation occurs. When I ask what the biggest regret they had, the most common answer is that they never took a semester abroad. As a junior Public Health major at the University of South Carolina, I believe that this is the best opportunity to expand my horizons. Considering that Denmark is one of the happiest and healthiest countries in the world, it would be a privilege to study Public Health at the Danish Institute for Study abroad. Core courses including Health delivery and prioritization in Northern Europe, would provide an insight into the public health of Northern Europe and allow me to understand the keys that make this part of the world so healthy. …show more content…
Spending an entire semester in a new county, with peers and educators I have never met, appears to be a daunting journey. But this is not a journey that I am nervous to embark on, but one that fills me with eagerness and excitement. With the globalization of businesses, and the advancement of computer technologies, the world is essentially “shrinking”. With this globalization it has become essential to understand other countries and cultures to keep pace with the ever-changing world. The knowledge and understanding I would attain from this semester would greatly enhance my global perspective, which would benefit me for a lifetime. Arriving back home in May, there will be great memories and learning experiences to reflect upon. There will be a great amount of adjustments to a new culture and way of academics. It will be essential for me to incorporate various strategies that will allow me to both cope and overcome these difficulties. First and foremost being a successful as a student would be a top priority. From my understanding, and what information I have attained for peers who have completed this program, academics is taken extremely seriously in Denmark. With that being known, taking the time to complete all schoolwork and reading assignments would be crucial for academic success. With aspirations of being a health professional I have always made academics my top priority. Having a diverse knowledge in study strategies, and leaning techniques, I will be able to use these tools to make the adjustment to whatever work professors assign. Being confident about the schoolwork aboard will certainly help my adjustment, but there are many other factors and frustrations I will encounter that I will need to prepare myself for before the
