The endless rows of gray tables and little blue stools are lined up in the cafeteria like the blue lines on a piece of notebook paper. During my limited years of public elementary school, my first-grade brain would curiously observe my peers as they got their lunch, who would follow each other into the lunch line like sugar ants lining up to snatch up the food that they wanted. When they returned from their voyage, I would observe their meals and maybe compare theirs to mine. I would watch them sit down, pick at their food, and eat a couple of bites. There would be heated political discussions (sometimes with quite alarming opinions, expressed as facts, told), discussions concerning the activities in school, and occasionally a birthday or two.
