Public Education Experience

Based on my personal experience with the public education system, I would say that the role of technology should stay about where it is currently at. I personally have never found that technology really took up a large portion of the classroom. Other than the use of the smart boards to display notes and show the occasional video, I have never found that the amount of technology was super over whelming in school. However, that is not to say that we need to see more technology integrated into the public education system. While there may be enough technology provided by the school, the problem comes into play when you realize that most students have cell phones that they use constantly throughout the school day. This could take the amount of technology

Andrew LeFevre wrote an article called Technology Alone Has Not Improved Education. In this article, he explains the opposition of technology being a home run, when it comes to education. He does this first by stating that the costs of technology are very great and that school systems can overspend money on technology, and have less to spend on necessities. LeFevre also claims that the inconsistencies of the teachers operating the technology and the misuse of it can be detrimental to learning. However, Dr.Honey does an excellent job of squashing the argument of her opposition.…

Many school systems in America are using more technology every year. By having more technology, students are given the opportunity to use computers and the internet to expand their researching abilities. Though technology has been increasing, does it positively affect the students? According to Susan Pink, author of “Can Students Have Too Much Tech,” she reported that students who grew up with modern technology were more likely to fail in academic classes. Although the internet can have a negative impact on students grades, I believe that students should have a limit on how they can use technology.…

The changing and increasing role technology is playing in the classroom is in my opinion the closest we have gotten to real and lasting change. While currently, most students are using technology within the constraints of the normal school schedule, programs like Hybrid learning (the Hy-C program in our district) and flipped classrooms allow students to work at their own pace in different environments. Students are also able to work together effectively and collaborate with people outside of their school building or culture; some students who would otherwise be disengaged are participating in tech-based lessons; and teachers are able to differentiate within the classroom like never…

When it comes to public service delivery, it is the first issue that what system the government should adopt to achieve collective actions among agencies and communities. The established system would contribute to levels and qualities of services by virtue of the way how it linked fellow citizens, intermediary groups, and bureaucracies. Consequently, the more satisfied public services would be provided in particular area while other not. According to Ostrom et al.(1961), the government serves to internalize positive or negative externalities by providing non-exclusive public goods. To maintain the optimal state of public services delivery, the polycentric political systems, the various political jurisdictions or centers of decision-making in…

I am interested in a career in urban education because I strongly believe in giving back to your community. It is imperative for students to see someone that represent them in a leadership role. In my perspective, the three factors that I think most significantly contribute to low student achievement in low-income communities are the deficient in resources available for students, lack of collaboration with families and teachers that are not passionate in educating urban students. Some schools in low-income communities have great success, while others do not because of the school’s culture.…

Because students have grown up with technology and use it in their daily lives, it would make sense for schools to start using them as learning aids, rather than books. "Small business owners are now more dependent than ever on technology for growth since their customers and employees are so geographically dispersed,"Although some parents say that they would rather have their children learn from books like they used, our world is changing and electronics in the classroom would be more beneficial. Although some say that it is muscle memory which is why the teachers give notes, 80 percent of the time, the notes will get lost. If students used technology instead of books, the notes would not be able to get lost because the notes would be on their electronics. In addition, it would help if high school was like college in these types of situations.…

The “shut down your screen week” proposal is a wise decision. Multiple schools rely on many technology based programs to notify students about their assignments that are due. While people heavily depend on technology to do their homework, we also need to learn how to organize ourselves without technology. Although having one week of school without technology might waste a lot of paper, it won’t last very long and we learn very important skills that we will need later in our lives. There are many reasons why schools should have “shut down your screen week.…

Education, although a right in the United States, undeniably stratifies opportunities that can either help or hinder students from cultivating their full potential. The core of social justice starts in the classroom, providing the same resources and quality of education to all students regardless of the street they grew up on, what’s in their parents’ pockets, or the amount of melanin in their skin. When thinking about my life in public education, I recall Ms. Ackerman’s 1st grade class where I learned that the way we treat the earth directly effects humans and animals alike; Or Ms. Kotarba’s 3rd grade class where every student, regardless of religion, would feel included and understood when they weren’t able to celebrate holidays with the…

It is crucial to look beyond potential flaws in new innovations to see the good in what they may bring. As far as technology in education goes, it is an absolute necessity for schools to adapt to such technological changes if they want to keep up with the modern world. “The most successful higher education organizations in the future will be those that most effectively plan for, implement, utilize, and manage technology” (Gray, Stefurak, and Surry 2). In order for students to prosper in today’s world, colleges must prepare them by using the right tools and technologies. That is the only way to make it in this rapidly developing world.…
