Unit 3 Discussion In mathematics, squaring a number is basically multiplying it by itself. It is simply impossible for two different numbers, when squared, to give the same results, because all positive real numbers have two square roots; a positive and a negative. For instance, in the following problem,(x^2=4) although it may seem as (x = 2) is the only solution, that is not true. If you solve using the Square Root Property, you can conclude that there are two solutions; (x = 2 or x = -2). In addition, the Square Root Property is a method that is used to find the solutions to a quadratic or second degree equation and to do so, you must isolate the term that contains the squared variable, and then take the square root of both sides, and find a solution to the variable. Likewise, the result of this equation informs me that when you are trying to solve for an equation that consists of a variable that is squared, you will end up with two solutions, because that is what the Square Property is all about, since you do not know whether it …show more content…
A condition that will change the number of solutions will be the complication of the problem, such as these two problems as examples; (x-5)^2-100=0 and (x-2)^2-12=0. Moreover, the first equation will be broken down into (x-5^2 )=100. Next, we will continue to solve by adding the number to the other side of the equation, so that we can get the squared binomial by itself, and then find the square root of both sides, and simplify the results, which will give us two solutions, (x = -5 or x = 15). On the other side, the second equation will be broken down into (x-2^2 )=12. Next, to solve for the equation, you must add the number to the other side of the equation to get the squared part by itself , and lastly, find the square root of both sides, and the simplify the results, which will come up with
