The patient is given a new kidney, but the donor obtains nothing. The doctors and nurses are even paid for performing the operation. Of course the donor will have that heart-warming, inspirational sensation of helping another human being, but this isn’t always enough. In third- world countries , there are people willing to do anything for money. Eager to pay off their debts, they line up all over at hospitals willing to sell a kidney. Many people take risks to their health every day for money, or just for enjoyment.…

A separate juvenile justice system was established in the United States with the goal of diverting youthful offenders from the destructive punishments of criminal courts and encouraging rehabilitation. More than 1 million American youth end up in juvenile court every year, and 160,000 of them are referred to residential placement (DeAngelis, 2011). Research shows that settings likes these (e.g. residential placement, detention centers, correctional institutions) produce higher rates of recidivism. However, an understanding of psychological explanation and perspectives have led to the growth of various training and counseling programs (Whitehead & Lab, 2013). Often, during times of hardship, a person has lost their ability to communicate and these decisions…
Rebekah Sauvola Response Paper 5 Southern New Hampshire University Diagnosing psychological and mental illness through using psychological measures has some great possibilities but still has some weaknesses. There are so many variables in psychological testing that it would be hard to diagnose someone on just a test alone. There needs to be many other parts to a diagnosis other than just a test. It might be too easy to misdiagnose a person if the test was not the right one for them or the test was interpreted incorrectly. If utilized in a correct way, psychological tests could be a very useful tool when diagnosing patients.…

Altruistic kidney donor is a term used for an anonymous living kidney donor, altruism is also seen as an “ethical value” (Nuffield Council on Bioethics, 2011). Informed consent is assured through a psychiatric assessment on potential donors (HTA, 2012), once the informed consent is clear the other reasons why an altruistic kidney donor wants to donate is disregarded; for this reason there is lack of information explaining the reasons behind an altruistic donor. Although, recently a study by Clarke et al (2013) found donors commonly donate due to “connectedness to others” and “un-easy negotiations with others”. Due to a more individualistic society in the past Altruistic kidney donors were seen by many as a possible mental illness Sadler et al (1971). This study by Challenor Watts (2013) used a psychosocial methodological framework to qualitatively investigate the social and psychological factors behind why altruistic kidney donors donate.…

Three fourths of people did not receive the help they needed due to the lack of donors. While still living or upon death individuals need to consider donating their organs for these reasons and others.…
