In fact, The American Psychological Association in 2014 conducted a study involving 143 offenders, the data gathered from intensive interviews to examine how often and consistently crime is committed under the influences of mental illness. For instance, of the crimes committed by interviewees with schizophrenia, 23% were completely or mostly related to the symptoms of disorder. The results of each category were used to describe the frequency of the the direct relationship between symptom and crime.
