A psychopath individual is known to act very impulsively, with disregard for others emotions, and against common social norms.5 Psychopathy is a mental health disorder that causes patients to exhibit lack of compassion and concern for others.2 Although there is a lot of information available to the public about how a psychopath acts, there is not much research done on why certain individuals exhibit psychopathic behaviors. Psychopaths exhibit certain characteristics and the majority of them can be explained on a neurological level. There are a few early warning signs of psychopathy which include, callous-unemotional traits (CB), or the disregard for others and lack of empathy, and antisocial behavior (AB).11 Individuals that suffer from these tend to lack emotional traits.11 It has been seen that children who display anti-social behavior are more likely to commit crimes in their adult life.11 A study was done one same sex sets of twins seven year old children, in which their elementary school teacher evaluated them for CB and AB at the end of the school year.11 Analysis of the teachers responses showed that there was genetic influence in whether or not a child displayed CB or AB, but an environmental factors did not show any influence.11 A test was performed on adult psychopathic individuals and non-psychopathic individuals where the participants were showed facial expressions and asked to identify them.1 The psychopathic individuals made numerous errors in the recognition of fearful facial expressions.1 Psychopathic children have shown errors in recognizing both fear and sad facial expressions, but no results showed that adult psychopathic individuals could not identify sadness.1 It is commonly thought that psychopathic individuals lack empathy, but a test one done to check the accuracy of this statement.7 Nine narcissistic characteristics were tested and only one showed the lack of empathy that was …show more content…
With further research we could discover why psychopathy causes individuals to have significantly reduced grey matter in their orbitofrontal, and frontopolar cortices. With this information a successful treatment plan could be established and that could lead to a better live for psychopathic individuals and a reduced crime rate
