Psychootherapist Counseling

It is sad to read what Harley had experienced in life and he was born with and were never taken care of and combination of all the experiences that he came across even makes it difficult for him to cope in normal life. Harley would definitely benefit with psychotherapist counseling because this counseling is long term and he has long term issues. The basic counseling will not benefit him alone. For better understanding my client I would first ask him open ended questions that will help him give out more information as he can and also help him remember as much as he can. Talking out is one way of letting it out to some clients when you talk of something that is disturbing it helps ease the painful memories that he didn’t talk with anyone before.

During his first visit to the hospital the doctors likely attempted to treat him with psychological debriefing, which is common for veterans (Slawenski, 2011). In this treatment, the client is given emotional support by allowing them to speak about his or her experiences (Comer, 2015). Additionally, psychologists seemed to use talk therapy—perhaps from a psychoanalytic Freudian viewpoint when he recalled being asked questions such as “How was your childhood” and “What is your sex life like?” (Slawenski, 2010). Perhaps if he had sought treatment today he would have been treated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and had better outcomes (Comer, 2015). In this therapy, he would have undergone prolonged exposure in which he spoke about his issues many times in order to help them become less intense over time (Comer, 2015).…

I have limited experience at this time but have witnessed its cathartic results first and second hand as both a leader and a protagonist. From all the theories studied in this course, there are some theories that I would like to apply that would be beneficial in helping me guide my clients to the right path. Person-centered therapy: In this therapy, Carl Roger recommended that the client would have the best help if the therapist motivates the client to concentrate on the problem then on the interpretation that others have on the situation.…
