Even when I was young, I knew that I wanted to go into a career that would help people overcome any challenges they may face. However, it wasn't until my junior year AP Psychology class when I discovered a career possibility of neuroscience. The class was required to research psychology-related careers, and that is where I delved into a deep hole of neuropsychology discoveries, education requirements, responsibilities, etc. This research showed me that I truly love neuropsychology and how they can help people overcome their personal struggles, whether mental or physical.…

I studied brain and behaviour during my first year of clinical medicine, and found that I was particularly intrigued by neuroscience. Throughout my year at Barts and the London, I thought a lot about whether the course was right for me, and began considering other options. I struggled to feel passionate about the course and my future as a doctor, but decided to complete the year to confirm my feeling that a career in medicine was not right for me. During this year, however, I developed a particular interest in the study of the brain, brain development and human behaviour. These lectures became the highlight of the year, and made me really keen to learn more about the subject.…

At gatherings adults would always ask me what I wanted to become. I would say something about how I was interested in becoming a vet or a teacher and they would smile and at how lovely that was. Such a simple question, yet, if I was to be completely honest the answer was that I had no clue. That is, until the start of my sophomore year of high school when I decided to take AP Psychology. I didn’t know too much about the subject…

Baylor Personal Statement I could hear conversation coming from inside the room. Confused and eager, I positioned myself behind the door. Why was no one excited? First, through discussions with my mother and my independent explorations of psychology, I realized that I could apply psychological concepts whenever I wanted to better understand or analyze a topic. For instance, daily habits, behavior, or even political and cultural movements could be understood better using some form of psychological analysis. I really enjoyed this aspect of psychology because it was a field that provided me with information that was both useful to me and to others around me. My second eureka moment was when I realized that my own bookshelf was beginning to resemble the one in my mother’s office, and that our discussions were no longer comprised of questions I had for her, but also questions that she would ask me. These two realizations and additional factors led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in…

Like every child, I went through the ubiquitous “why” stage where I posed this question even to the smallest, most mundane events of life. Filled with genuine curiosity and fascination, I desired to understand the ornate workings of the world.
