Personal Narrative: My Brain Function

Improved Essays
Introduction
Most people do not think about psychology, they think about life in the moment. There are reasons why people are the way that they are and therefore psychology puts that information together, so we can understand it better. Throughout psychology there is a vast amount of research that proves the development of our personality and how humans go through stages of life. Although I have never studied psychology, I learned how our brain functions mentally and psychically, how our childhood experiences influence who we become, and to have an open mind about the world.
My Brain Function We all have a brain, but everyone has a brain that functions differently than someone else’s brain. According to Laura A. King, “The Brain

Almost everyone will experience a horrible day and a wonderful day, but that experience is what helps us grow. My childhood was not horrible nor wonderful. I grew up in the country of Lonoke, Arkansas until I was about eight years old. I spent half of those years in daycare and I have wonderful memories of being there. The experience of being in daycare gave me the opportunity to make friends. I met my first best friend named Katie Chapman. We became great friends probably because we have the same first name. I can remember the fun times we had. I also had another friend who was my neighbor Kennedy Roland who was one year younger than me. I went to public school in Cabot, Arkansas with her and I also have awesome memories of riding the bus. A negative part about my childhood was that I gained an immense amount of weight. I think school was stressful for me that all I wanted to do was eat. Also my parents did not care if we ate unhealthy meals and snacks. Moreover, another aspect that changed my life is when we moved to Warsaw, Missouri. My parents are from Warsaw, so I was not happy to move, but I was not sad that it made me depressed. I learned a vast amount of information about my family while living in Warsaw. I was not and I am still not an outgoing person. Now sometimes I feel like my life is really boring because I live in a small town and there is dishes, laundry, sweeping, and …show more content…
Making a decision can be very difficult because there is a vast amount of options. Living in Missouri has its negatives and positives. The main negative of living in Missouri is that there is not as many art careers as there is in a state like California. Every day I worry about the degree that I am achieving because there is little opportunity in Missouri. The main positive of living in Missouri is my family lives here. I am nervous for my future because I will have to adventure outside of my comfort zone, although it will be excellent for me. My parents are not very outgoing and they have experience in the difficulties in the work force. I hope that I will not have to experience some of the hurtful things that they have encountered through life. I understand that our attitude in life is what can take us the farthest through life. I try to have a positive or humorous attitude about everything in life. My genes play an important role on being the way that I am and who I might become in the future. Furthermore, I am able to perceive my future by recognizing the way my parents have been. According to Laura A. King, “the particular influences of nature (genetic endowment) and of nurture (experience),” has a meaningful aspect (p. 88). My genetics and my experience is how my future will be the way it turns

When it comes to the question of, is destiny decided by genes or do one's choices that they make decide the outcome of their lives people are on two different sides of the spectrum. Two non-fiction authors wrote their own articles on this issue. David Epstein and Malcolm Gladwell both came up with their own ideas on the subject. In David Epstein’s excerpt The Sports Gene , he argued that genes decide our future. Malcolm Gladwell on the other hand, believes that one's choices make up his future and discusses his view in his excerpt The Outliers.…

The norm may not always be the right way to go. I no longer want to be a part of a popular or important group of people, if I feel that what the group is doing or believes in is wrong, even if it means I'm not a part of the norm. I am not afraid to stand out on my own. I have challenged this belief for many years. When I was in elementary school, I was bullied by a group of girls that I hung with, looked up to and idolized.…

Not a Lucid Dreamer Ever since I was little I knew I was different. There was something about the way I viewed the world that always made me wonder why I saw it that way. Personality refers to the emotional and physical environment or surrounding that influences the behavior or character of an individual. Through this, the consistent or stable behavior, attitude, interest and capabilities of a person are used to predict their reaction to particular circumstances. Personality development, therefore, is believed to be coined from two significant and contrasting theories, psychodynamic and social learning theories. The psychodynamic theory is among the first influential explanation that combines the genetic and biological forces together with an individual’s social experience in a bid to explain personality acquisition from childhood. It also tries to explain how an individual’s unsatisfactory childhood experience…
