Psychology In Middle School

When I was little I loved school, starting in pre-k all the way till middle school I always felt that I had something to look forward to on the drive to school, even though I didn't know what the day would hold. I went to Southmoor elementary and it was a really good time. I always hear about people who peaked in highschool and that it's such a terible thing, but I definitely peaked in elementary school. School was genuinely easy and I had fun while I was there. One event that really set the path for the rest of my educational path was being put into the HGT program when I was in 1st grade. Looking back I feel that there are a lot of things that are fundamentally wrong with “gifted” programs because by the time the kids who where in them get …show more content…
Now, I'm a firm believer that no one has a good time in middle school, but I think few middle schools have such a detrimental effect on their students as mine did. It all started in 6th grade, when my math teacher left before the end of first semester for a job that payed more. This wasn't initially an issue, until the same thing happened with my second teacher that year. Because of that, for all of second semester my class had short term subs. At this point I wasn't really “getting the concepts” which it wasn't helped by my 7th grade math teacher who spent more time talking about her dog than telling us how to do basic ratios. But wait there's more! In 8th grade my first math teacher had personal issues come up, and left. Then our second math teacher that year was switched to another class. Consequently, I got a third math teacher. Might I add that because the school was known for being crappy it didn't necessarily attract the best teachers, so even for the short time increments where I was with a teacher, it wasn't particularly helpful. By the end of that whole experience I had lost 2 years of math and had to be tutored to make up for the deficit However I'm still a year behind where I would have been, had Morey done their job. There where plenty of other times that Morey simply didn't function as a school should but I think my description of the math program sums it up

Inside Out A movie “inside out” by pete docter is about how five emotions grapple the control of an 11 year old girl. I realised after watching the movie it's much more than a kids movie. It demonstrates how our mines worked by different types of emotions in this movie, the girl mind was controlled by anger, disgust, fear, sadness and joy. This emotions and many more show how we act and what we show. It shows us that we tend to deal with our emotions that we have experienced by avoiding the bad feelings and the bad problems.…

If you put 10,000 hours of concentrated effort into something, you will automatically become good at it, regardless of talent or gifted traits. Being successful is one of the driving points of American society. This is the point made by Malcolm Gladwell in his novel Outliers, which is in contrast with the pith of the article “Your Genes Don’t Fit: Why 10,000 Hours of Practice Won’t Make You an Expert.” I am against the 10,000 hour rule and agree with the article, not the book. Many people may disagree with this statement as Malcolm Gladwell has scientifically proven that the 10,000 hour rule is genuine.…

Moving from Albuquerque, New Mexico was the first impactful event of my life. When I was seven years old and almost a half, my parents told me that my family of six was going to pack up everything, leave our home, our livelihood, and move to Idaho. At this time, I was young, but I knew I was going to miss Albuquerque. Already, I knew I was going to miss the plump dappled quails who walked quickly with their wee babies toddling behind in a straight line and the skinny, all leg, roadrunners who would sprint across the roads. As well as those birds, I was going to miss my little Crocodile Smile green room.…

From the start I never really liked school at all. I mean from what I can recall, I would always hide in the slide at PreSchool and tried to stay hidden until my mom came to finally pick me up. That changed when I entered Elementary school and opened up a little to my other classmates. I would actually play and be friends with them and never stray away. There were rough times in my life that I found hard to adjust to.…

My first day of middle school was hell, I have always been good at school. My grades have never been bad and neither have my actions and or attendance. Probably from having a mom that is also a teacher. I look at that as a good thing though, watching kids just goof off and not come to school then high school rolled around and it was like I got to look down on them because they did not prepare for bigger and better things. School wasn't bad for me because it was hard, it was bad because i was always shy in school.…

“As a kid growing up in Compton life was not that bad” said Michael Callaghan a 20-year-old, fourth year, undergraduate engineer major at the University of California, Los Angeles. “I mean I was blind to the fact that it was bad. To be honest, I hate school with a passion, yet I love learning as much as living. As a child, schooling created a feeling of loneliness and sadness that echoed throughout my life, even now. I didn’t meet the standard levels for literacy and was separated from my classmates in elementary school for special reading and writing classes. Also the lack of freedom to say and move the way I wished to, and the rebellion that stemmed out of me in middle school due to these limitations. Finally, the conforming in high school to appease my mother, friends that drove me over the edge, yet even now I feel the same bull-crap in college.…
