Introduction This paper outlines an action plan regarding group processes in a Psychology classroom in a rural school district. Previously, group projects have been viewed as a way of reducing work load between all involved. However, stduents should be taught the skills of group work, to enhance the collaborative work that often appears in various careers.
Description of Professional Setting and Circumstances Northern Cambria High School is located in Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania. The population of the borough of Northern Cambria has 1, 763 households with children under the age of 18. While not a poor district, it is not a well-off district either. Northern Cambria is in a rural part of Pennsylvania, and only had 1, 155 students enrolled in 2014. In 2015, Northern Cambria was ranked 378th out of 493 by the Pittsburgh Business Times for academic achievement. The class this paper will focus on is a Psychology class. Students are in the 11th and 12th grade and have completed the majority of their core classes and are taking this as an elective. The class has 23 students in it, and a majority of them are girls. Evaluation can often be as simple as notation after the specific assignments are completed. However, much like the evaluation of the groups themselves, it is beneficial to the teacher to have continuous evaluation throughout the process. In fact, using the group evaluations will help evaluate the action plan as a whole. Evaluation of the group will be done by its members. They will be asked about the group as a whole, and about their individual members—how collaboratively and collectively everyone worked toward the common goal that was their
