My perception of a counselor role when I first entered the mental health counseling program at Touro back in 2013 was with a supporter of the mental illness came the awareness of the importance of counseling as a practice of treatment. During my journey, I discovered that counseling may be challenging as it needs to be individual detailed. What works for one individual may or may not work for another. Whereas “finding counseling” has felt like a very lengthy progression already, I know that the development of “understanding counseling” has just begun in my new found career. I strongly believed that mental health counselor in today’s society is here to help individuals with a wide range of mental health issues (e.g., depression, anxiety, eating…

Being a psychiatrist is more than just diagnosing people with their personal turmoils, such as “crazy” or “disturbed “, and handing them a pill for a “quick fix”. Psychiatrists need to know how to treat different patients, whether that be handing them a certain pill for maybe depression or anxiety along with some counseling, or just being someone for them to confide in and trust. A psychiatrist has to be able to put a lot of time into their job due to having a lot of responsibilities, and being put under a lot of stress. They must love the job nevertheless, not only for the physical rewards received, but also knowing that they are the person someone trusts and can always come to.…

From an early age I have been intrigued by the human mind and how it works. This interest has been enhanced through my study of psychology. Although I have only studied this subject for a relatively short period of time, I have enjoyed the variety the A-level course provides and I feel I have had a sample of different fields of this subject. I have particularly enjoyed studying comparative psychology because I am interested in how the human mind can be explained in evolutionary terms and how we can be compared to non-human animals. I have always enjoyed mathematics, both learning and application.…
