Non-pharmacological techniques recognize the role that psychological and behavioral factors have in insomnia (Morin et al., 2006). Morin et al. (2006) describe several treatments that meet the criteria for empirically-supported psychological treatments for insomnia, like stimulus control therapy (SCT). SCT involves making the bedroom a place to sleep and establishes a consistent sleep-wake schedule. Another behavioral treatment is sleep restriction therapy, which is designed to restrict time in bed to the amount of time slept. Relaxation training helps participants to concentrate on muscle relaxation and reducing intrusive thoughts at bedtime. Lastly, is cognitive-behavior therapy which is a combination of any of the above listed behavioral
