Biological theory assume that psychological and physiological disorders are similar and therefore can be treated in the same way. Scientific approach of this theory is a big advantage as all findings are linked to e.g. medicine. Also there is an evidence that both genetic and biochemical factors have impact on our psychological health and development of psychological illnesses such as depression or schizophrenia. However weakness of this theory is fact that actually not all psychological disorders have physiological cause.
Biological therapy also have it pros and cons. As it is using medicines to control hormones in our body it is effective and can benefit client in short period of time. However use of medicines can be seen as a big disadvantage. Considering this treatment as a solution for Jamie’s depression we have to keep in mind that as he is a teenager he is more likely to face main side effect of this therapy which is addiction to prescribed antidepressants.
