Hamlet Final Project: Psychological Profile of Hamlet The patient’s name is Hamlet and he is around the age of 30 according to the character Gravedigger and because of the fact that he is a college student. Hamlet appears as a white, average looking male who of late has been very down casted and because of the death of his father King Hamlet, Hamlet’s mood is dictated by his depression. At the beginning of the play, Hamlet wears an unusual all black outfit to represent the mourning of his father’s death. Hamlet presented a careless and descending attitude which was clear to all the characters that he was obviously upset about something. After the funeral of his father, Hamlet begins to go off the deep end and become a complete different person.

In this quote Hamlet says by facing the problems in his life, that he’ll be acting differently. By acting different to an issue appears to be normal. After the death of his father Hamlet was very depressed like most people would be. Experiencing a death is never fun and since Hamlet was so close to his father, he was devastated. The first found disorder was schizophrenia. With the speaking to a ghost figure and being told to pursue certain actions came to this conclusion. “O gentle son, upon the heat and the flame of thy distemper sprinkle cool patience! Whereon do you look”(III, iv, 139-141)! This was said by Gertrude to Hamlet when referring to the ghost he was speaking to. In the conversation between Hamlet and the ghost, the ghost proclaimed that Hamlet get the job done and murder Claudius already. Schizophrenia patients are marked by severely impaired thinking, emotions, and behaviors. They’re are usually unable to filter sensory stimuli for which may contain enhanced perceptions of sounds or colors. Without the treatment needed, it’s likely for a patient to withdraw from interactions with other people, and lose the ability to take care of themselves(Frey). The second disorder that Hamlet suffered from was bipolar disorder. With the death of his father, Hamlet went into a very depressed phase where he was contemplating suicide to being determined avenging his father. “Good Hamlet, cast thy nighted colour off, and let thine eye look like a friend on Denmark. Do not for ever thy vailed lids seek for thy father in the dust”(I,ii, 70-73).
