I was about to get out of the Army and begin my new life as a civilian with my boyfriend (I’ll call him Joe). He too was active duty with a few months left before he ended his military career. I went home to visit family for a month before beginning school in Louisiana. Joe was on vacation visiting his family in Louisiana getting things ready for me to move down south with him. We both had a great time visiting family and were ready for the next step. Joe was going back to work to sign out of the unit as I was preparing my long drive down south. The day before he was to fly home and I was to begin my journey the unthinkable happened. He had just dropped off his kids at his former in laws, said his farewells, walked out the door and was killed on the drive way. No one knew how long he was dead or that he was even dead until a neighbor came to the door and asked about him lying on the floor. The cops were called and the investigation began. In spite of all the negativity surrounding his family and me the one thing we turned to was our faith. We went to church and understood that God had a reason for calling him home so early. In a sense we did just as Job’s did, we “…fell on the ground and worshipped.” (Job 1:20) We didn’t question God’s doings, we just accepted his decision.
There are many examples of God testing his children’s faith and loyalty. As stated before death takes an emotional toll on the family. At times it’s very difficult for people to accept the loss of a loved one. God may choose to bring a series of events to test the person’s strength. The loss of a job, money, and house. The list is
