Parents have a very significant role in the lives of the athletes. Children who are spoiled and do not have to work for anything, typically are not suited to handle adversity. Sports do much more then teach X’s and O’s, but sports also teach life lessons. Parents can teach athletes toughness, dedication, and teamwork. Parenting can also be detrimental when athletes are being pushed too hard. A clear example would be the crazy loud dad that screams and enforces physical punishment on their child are committing a mistake. This is when pressure begins to cause stress. There are people who deal with problems better than others, but this is something that can be learned through life experiences. For an example, an athletes that has lost before can learn how to comeback after a loss better than an athlete who has lost for the first time. This is the reason why most true freshmen or first time starters do not do so well when they are put in the fire. After a few games and a couple reps, athletes get caught up to the speed of the game.
