Alcohol can be expensive. The prices range anywhere from 15 dollars to 115 dollars depending on which kind you want. Many think that 15 dollars is not bad at all but it adds up. Excessive alcohol consumption costs the United States $223.5 billion. This is about $1.90 per drink. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Not only does purchasing alcohol add up but driving under the influence effects people who drink excessively economically. The cost of a non- injury non damage DUI is anywhere between $5,000 to $12,000. It cost less than $20 for a 12 pack of beer, but if it is drank over a few hours, it can cost you up to $12,000. (Stim) When you get caught for driving under the influence, you get taken to jail and are held there until you are sober. This will be written on your record and will have many effects on your future. After you are released from jail, you will have to attend a court hearing which will cost you anywhere from $250 to $1500. You will also have to pay legal fees and get you a lawyer which will cost you $2,000 at the least. You will also need to pay to get your license back after you are unsuspended. The DUI on your record will also cause your insurance to go up, you might also end up losing some income because you will need to miss work to go to court appearances, classes, and community service. In all honesty, the cost of buying the alcohol
