Many of the ways in which psychologist have treated psychological disorders throughout history are still very relevant today, though psychologists and psychiatrists alike have evolved over time to developed and implement insightful techniques in order to combat mental disturbances. In understanding psychological disorders and mental diseases there are many aspects of the mind that are still very mysterious, medical professionals have many theories and concepts concerning the causes of mental illnesses, yet findings for such theories are sometimes difficult to determine. Although there have been many breakthroughs in knowledge pertaining to mental disorders, there is still much to be understood. In the brief history of medical treatment for psychological disorders there have been many treatments, both erroneous and helpful in treating diseases of the mind. In this paper I will provide a brief synopsis of the history of psychological disorders and their treatments in order to obtain of better understanding of psychological phenomena. Psychological disorders are classified as a mental illness that prevents a person from coexisting in a normal society, or as marked by personal distress and impairment in many areas of ones life.
