Psychological Autopsy is an examination of a person’s mental health and state before time of death. This type of examination would be used when individuals die, mostly by suicide. Professionals would interview the deceased’s family and closest friends and gather hospital information, criminal records, etc. From this information, professionals can make an assessment about the person’s mental health and to get an idea of why they committed suicide. In fact, research shows that 91% of suicides have suffered from co-morbid mental disorders. Another way in which we could use tool, is to prevent and identify factors that contribute to suicide (“Psychological Autopsy Studies of Suicide, 2003)
