Case Study 32 – Avoiding dual relationships addresses ethical concerns with an I/O Psychologist hired to help a company with employee’s who were in need of performance management. The psychologist also took advantage of an opportunity to provide services to employees of the company outside of the psychologist’s role with the company. An analysis of this case identified that three ethical codes from the American Psychological Association (APA) Code of Ethics that could be applied to the psychologist behaviors.
Multiple Relationships
The first ethical concern for the psychologist is having a service relationship with the organization to assist their employees and then deciding to provide similar services to some of the employees outside of the organization. APA (2010) Code 3.05 - Multiple

Maintaining Confidentiality
Lastly, when the psychologist shared information that he received from the employees, based on information received for services outside of the organization this was clearly a violation of confidentiality. According to the APA (2010) Code 4.01 “maintaining confidentiality Psychologists have a primary obligation and take reasonable precautions to protect confidential information obtained through or stored in any medium, recognizing that the extent and limits of confidentiality may be regulated by law or established by institutional rules or professional or scientific relationship” (p.
