Psychoeducational Group Psychoeducational group is one of the effective group to utilize working with a diverse populations. According to Gladding, “psychoeducational groups were originally develop for use in educational settings, especially public schools. Psychoeducational groups with well-organized and structured activities and exercises, help increase the self-worth of participants. Based on Yalom’s research on therapeutic factors, these groups provide information, socializing techniques, hope, and modeling. Psychoeducation groups will benefit adolescents by utilizing educational methods to acquire information and develop related meaning and skills. Lefley (2009) has found that psychoeducational groups help members who have serious mental illnesses “combat social isolation, redeem self-esteem and hope, and improve their life situation” (p. 10-1). Psychoeducational group is “developmental and primarily voluntary and self-focused” (Gladding, 2012, p. 257).
Counseling Group As a clinician, I will use counseling group as one of my other evidence-based practice when facilitating a group working with adolescents who is a dangerous relationship known as dating violence. According to Gladding, “counseling groups are preventive, growth oriented, and remedial. The focus of counseling groups, which are also referred to as counseling/interpersonal problem-solving groups, is on the improvement of interpersonal relationships and the intrapersonal growth of members through the help of the group” (p. 13). The group sessions will last sixty or ninety minutes with an exception of taking a break. The group will meet once a week in the afternoon around four. Therefore, the six week sessions will provide the group members an opportunity to discuss their emotions, thoughts, and are educated with the signs and symptoms of domestic abuse.
