Psychodynamic Survey Essay

Introduction of the Survey and Rating Scale Northouse (2004) states, “the psychodynamic approach, personality types are emphasized, and evidence is presented that suggests that various personality types are better suited to particular leadership positions or situations” (p. 272). The psychodynamic survey includes eight sentences and I rate the degree to which I believe it describes me. The sentences used a 6- point Likert type scale: 1= never true, 2= rarely true, 3= sometimes true, 4=usually true, 5=often true, and 6= always true. The sentences were paired together, 1 with 2 and so on. The total of the pairings should always equal 7, so if I rated myself a 4 on number 1 then number 2 will be a 3. Every group of sentences equated to a letter: …show more content…
My highest scores were in the sentences associated with the letters e, n, f, and j. I am not surprised by being identified as an extrovert, intuitor, feeler, and judger (ENFJ). I have taken similar surveys in the past and rated the same. An extrovert is seen as being energetic and enjoying the company of others. I feel as though feeling coincides with being an extrovert. I am a social butterfly. I love being around my coworkers and the farmers, talking about their families and what events have happened with them lately. Northouse (2004) describes an inuitor, “They would prefer to be creative, to fantasize about the future, to apply ingenuity to a problem” (p. 285). The feed mill has some old procedures that need to be updated. When a railcar is thought to be empty, the employees will beat on it to hear if it sounds empty. I suggest getting a long pole and attaching a mirror or camera to it, this has prevented inventory loss because the employee can visibly see if there is some product hung up in the car. I am a bit neurotic and like to create a plan for each day as to what I would like to accomplish, even if it’s something else simple as mounting a camera to a pole. Judgers like plans and structure, especially resolutions. All of these ratings help me to relate better with the farmers and other employees because my relationships with them allow me to see situations from their point of view, to …show more content…
I rated lower in introvert, sensor, thinker, and perceiver. If I am to be honest, I am not deficient in these areas. I listen to people every day when they bring up issues, that they may have had that day with our service or some other company’s service. I think that possessing some introversion is key to being a well-rounded human being. Sensoring and thinking are critical traits when coming from a scientific background. I had to objectively analyze data sets, and use precision and accuracy in relaying information from my thesis experiment. Even though I did not rate strongest in these categories I still possess these traits, otherwise I would not have been successful when obtaining my first master’s degree. I am not disappointed that I rated lower in perceiving. While I can be flexible, to an extent, I take deadlines

The Waterhouse Center was an incredible experience and an appropriate use of class time. The activities served as an informal way to get to know our peers, as well as an opportunity to analyze our own behavior. As a member of group “A” led by Bernie, we successfully accomplished a majority of the different events on his property. I will explain how we experienced success and trouble as a group, as well as how I handled my Myer’s Brigg’s typology and Big 5 personality types in relation to other individuals.…

Assessment one “My Basic Personality” showed that I was indeed an ENTJ. Those of the ENTJ personality type are born leaders. They can become frustrated and impatient when things don’t unfold according to their expected plan or time frame, evoking notions of the “Type-A” personality (Drenth, n.d.). Assessment two “Ambiguity” showed me something new about myself. Having intolerance of ambiguity means that you tend to perceive situations as threatening rather than promising (Robbins, 2008).…

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a self reporting assessment based directly on Carl Jung 's theory of personality (Friedman & Schustack, 2012). Jung hypothesized four functions of the mind: sensing, thinking, feeling, and intuiting. Further he determined that within each person all the personality traits exist, however, one of them normally dominates. In addition, Jung described two major attitudes of either introversion or extroversion which influence the other personality traits depending on which is dominant. According to Carl Jung 's theory people can be characterized by their general attitude preference toward introversion or extroversion; their preference toward perception as displayed in sensing or intuition; and their…

In the beginning of second semester I was being introduced into Psychology 101 which I had no idea on what this course will be teaching. As I just know the word “PSY” it would be mentioning about physical or something to do with the body. Then, doing some research about what Psychology will be teaching about from YouTube. Also, reading some articles from this website on what they will be mentioning about what the body will reacts to some situations. In the past months as learning about the basic about Psychology 101 this would be an advantage in taking the next step of becoming a police officer which I could use it to think like a victim and mange an issue or situation into peace that everything could be resolved in a matter of a way.…

As a result, I have concluded that I am a very passive person where I tend to stay on the sidelines and observe what might be going on. I was shocked the type of profession would best suit me. While there is something that is simultaneously comforting and disappointing about being told that which you already know, I did not accurately predict all of my results. Hippocrates (460-377 B.C), the ‘father of medicine’, denied that Gods and demons gave people mental afflictions, insisting that mental illness came down to brain pathology. However, whilst being the grandfather of ‘scientific’ psychology, he also held the belief that dreams were important when finding out about a person’s personality, thus relating to the psychodynamic approach we know today. Psychology started to evolve into its own formal branch, albeit with some assistance from philosophers and scientists. Influential persons include Charles Darwin and Descartes.…

Performance, leadership and conflict are the organizational dimensions I’m using to determine which personality types match the best with different organizational cultures. Individuals who score high on the extraversion dimension of the Big Five Model usually perform well in jobs with high interpersonal interaction and work well in groups. They tend to take charge and emerge as leaders of groups. Extraverts are good fits in a team-oriented organization with activities centered around teams instead of individuals (Robbins & Judge, 2014). I scored low on extraversion which doesn’t surprise me.…
