The major purpose of this psychoeducational group is raise awareness about the behavioral, medical, and psychological consequences of substance abuse. This group implements prevention and early intervention strategies, designed to help clients incorporate information that will help them establish and maintain abstinence, and guide them to more productive choices in their lives. This group will also teach participants strategies that will help relieve stress without the need for drugs.
Population:

Through strategies learned in substance abuse prevention groups, had a significant impact on cigarette smoking, excessive drinking and marijuana use. The importance of prevention groups is to inform participants the effect drugs and alcohol usage impacts your personal life and society. Substance abuse has caused the nation nearly $600 billion annually, due to crime, lost work, and healthcare (NDIC, 2010.) The nation leads the world in highest illegal drug use in the world (U.S. Leads the World in Illegal Drug Use, 2008.) According to SAMHSA’s national survey, an estimated 1.8 million are admitted to treatment facilities in 2008.
