USEng :He works days and studies nights EngEng: He works by day and studies at night 3- Phrases such as: to be home and to be at home can have two meanings which vary in the two accents.
In EngEng : Is John at home? Means: Is he physically there?
Is John home? Means: Has he returned

When you hear the word home, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it the place where you were raised, or where you’re currently residing? Do you think of something more emotional such as a person that you are most comfortable with, perhaps even yourself? Different people have different definitions of the word home. Homer uses it in a more literal way in his epic poem “The Odyssey” and Oliver used the word in a more spiritual way in her poem “The Journey”.…

    • A school board in Oakland, California voted to recognize Ebonics as a second language. This caused an uproar towards the African American communities who felt insulted by the board by comparing Ebonics to another language like Spanish or Chinese. Linguistic anthropologist, Marcyelina Morgan asserts that the African American community thinks that just cause this African American community speaks a variation of English, it doesn’t make them at an intellectual disadvantage and they shouldn’t be treated as such. This example intertwines with the idea of language ideology where people from different social forms speak differently. These African American students in Oakland speak a certain way in which they can’t really change…

Moore makes the claim that racism is deeply embedded in the English language. Moore explains his argument by stating that language is what defines a society and is an integral part of everyday life. Furthermore, one of his stronger claims is that the English language makes a play on "black" and "white words". Moore writes a paragraph displaying how uses of words like blackly, black eye, and blacklist, carries a negative connotation as opposed to "white" words: which defines into honest, decent, and pure, which carry positive connotations. Another great argument put forward by Moore is that a large number of Americans use words like "nigger", "spook", "chink", and "spic" etc.…
