Psychoactive Medication Informative Speech

The topic I chose for my speech is about the effects of psychoactive medications to human beings. Since almost all my audience are students who are in the medical field and students that wants to be in medical field, I chose this so I can explain to them and compare the good and bad effects of medicine in our body. Which in this case I focused I the side effects of psychoactive medication. I have discussed my thesis which states that medication is causing more harm than cure. I had three claims which supported my argument, this includes: Risperdal’s side effects and harms, when an onset of a adverse reaction from drug 1 occurs, patient will seek for medication to help and/or relieve that said adverse reaction, and lastly is drug-dependency when it can be prevented in the first place. One of the evidences I showed was preventing genetic diseases by regularly going to your healthcare provider to check that said disease. Ways such as following a healthy diet, doing exercise regularly and avoiding alcohol and tobacco, according to genome.gov. These preventative measures are applicable for someone who has a family history or background of heart disease, asthma, cancer, and diabetes. For someone who genetically inherited a mental disorder, there is not enough studies yet to show how it can be prevented. But there are ways in which you can get a treatment psychologically rather than medical means. One type of psychological means that I gave is psychotherapy. It is a treatment in which a psychologist talks to someone who has mental disorder in which no medication is prescribed. From the example that I gave, it shows that it is not necessary to get medicated to treat a mental disorder, sometimes someone just needs somebody to talk to about
