A lot of people want to blame the parents of the offenders, asking “what did you turn your child into?” 36% of serial killers were physically abused, 26% were sexually abused, and 50% were psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). Many people have logically come to the conclusion that just because someone is abused, it does not mean that they will become a serial killer; or even a murderer; which is true. In the general population (people who have never committed murder) only 6% are physically abused, 3% are sexually abused, and 2% are psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). The dramatic difference of abuse frequency between people who are serial killers and people who are not seems evident enough to support that serial killers are created.…

In some schools across America, the mass murder of Native Americans in California during the nineteenth century is taught as an inevitable, necessary evil (Discussion). However, this notion is false. The mass murder of the Native Americans was systematic and calculated, carried out by white settlers through attacks on the lives, livelihoods, homes, and cultures of the natives. According to both Raphael Lemkin and the United Nations, these actions were genocidal. In the work, Murder State, by Brendan Lindsay, Lindsay, using the definitions created by Lemkin and the United Nations, effectively categorizes this mass extermination of the Native Americans in California as a genocide.…

Our society has been dealing with violence on a regular basis. In fact, violence has become a part of today’s society happening in schools, streets, homes, and even on television. The television broadcast it and we all watch it. Some shows are not so bad, and some are so gruesome, I think how do people think like this. Some are based on true stories and some are not, but the crimes did not start today, they go all the way back to the most known movie that has been made over many times, the Texas chainsaw massacre.…

It was a night like most others in the abandoned ghost town. All I saw was darkness and shadows creeping around every corner. The article that I chose to write about covers homicides that have taken place across Cincinnati's 53 neighborhoods for a 36-month period last year. The article was an interest of mine, because an old school friend’s father took the job as the police chief in Cincinnati recently. When I viewed the data that was presented in the article, the horizontal axis explained the number of homicides in a neighborhood. The vertical axis explained how many neighborhoods had each of these numbers; in the first column, 13 neighborhoods had zero homicides (Crowe, 1991). Most neighborhoods had few homicides, but there are a few neighborhoods in Cincinnati that have many homicides.…
