Psuedo-Traditional Conservatism Analysis

Of the political values we discussed in class, I would say that the United States is leaning towards the value of psuedo-traditional conservatism. In clearly defining why a use the predicate “psuedo”, I want to make clear that the definition of traditional conservatism is pretty much set. That is, a type of conservatism that promote historical dominate, religious values regarding lifestyle and personal behavior. By adding the predicate “psuedo” to it, I think that a good portion of people who claim to embrace the ideals of traditional conservatism do so under misleading, and is some cases, demonstrably false pretentions.

If you look at the polls, this is very clearly down a conservative/liberal line. ( http://www.people-press.org/2015/09/28/majority-says-any-budget-deal-must-include-planned-parenthood-funding/) but as the Pew research center always does, they further divide this information into what could be seen as the “value” lines amongst the terminology of conservative/liberal. Although this does not call them “traditional” conservatives, or “welfare” liberals. I think that a corrolary can be made to what the Pew Research Center calls “conservative republicans” = traditional conservatives, and “Liberal Democrats” = Welfare Liberals. The poll numbers speakf or themsleves however, in creeps the pseudo - traditional conservative. In this case, there is a lot of misinformation and sleight of hand going around for everyone to have an opinion. The bottom line is that a pseudo-traditional conservative would most readily agree to defund planned parent. They would not consider the overlying effect of a budget crisis (due to the fact that this is a current issue in the budget debate), They would not consider understanding or attempting to understand reproductive rights issues, or the idea that a “traditional” conservative does not want government in their business (i.e., smaller government, government out of their personal affairs) and yet, the psuedo-traditional conservative will disregard this ideology, and want a front row seat, along with the government, all up in reproductive rights

The conservative is not a reactionary, but one who wishes to bring the country back to the ideals as outlined in the Preamble. Unfortunately, one often views perceptions and actions against his or her standard. Since there are limitations to the length of this review; I wish to concentration on several areas which I found critical to the foundation of modern Conservatism. The first is, what is a Conservative; second the role of Catholicism in shaping the thought and last what defines “small government” as a Conservative…

Kimberly Ross of Red State says “In fact, Planned Parenthood has so much money on hand that they spent $38 million on campaigns this year to put Hillary in the White House and pro-abort candidates in Congress.” Now that is a lot of money to be spent on something that has nothing to do with the patients of Planned Parenthood. To me it just seems unjust that people are paying taxes to the government for abortions while the Planned Parenthood business gets to play with tax dollars from the government to support a candidate’s…

Out of the numerous services that Planned Parenthood offers the public, only three percent of all of their procedures are abortions; meaning that ninety-seven percent of everything they do is basic health care and other medical services. Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood, lists the statistics in her article, Today, We Fight Back, “every year, 2.7 million people come through the doors of our health centers, a million people participate in our sex education programs, and 60 million people get health information and other resources from us online.” Since the Republicans who drafted this bill often focus on abortion, they completely ignore all of the good that Planned Parenthood does for the community. Getting into doctor’s offices can be incredibly long and hard process, as documented in Cecile Richards’ article; she talks about a woman that she met who, after her husband lost his job, lost their health insurance. After finding a lump on her breast, she only found two clinics that would take her on as a patient, but they had two-month long waiting lists, so she went to Planned Parenthood.…

Regardless of what your view on abortion is, the indisputable truth is that what planned parenthood is doing is very meaningful, and undoubtedly, lifesaving work. They administer essential health care services to 2.7 million women, men, and young people all across the country, the majority of which can not obtain medical assistance any other way. So defunding planned parenthood wouldn't mean defunding abortion it would means fighting against affordable healthcare. The organization is more than just an abortions clinic, women and men need planned parenthood and women have the right to their bodies and fighting planned parenthood would be to fight against that fundamental human right (BACHIOCHI).
