Daniel had been morning the past three weeks and when he standing on the bank of the Tigris river he saw a man clothed in linen with eyes like flaming torches and saw a vision (Daniel 10:2-7). The men around Daniel could not see the man which possibly means he was an angel. When the angel spoke, Daniel fell to the ground and the angel said to him, “Daniel, greatly beloved, pay attention to the words that I am going to speak to you” (Daniel 10:11). Daniel stood up while the angel told him not to fear and that God hears his words (Daniel 10:11-12). The angel tells Daniel how he was locked in combat for 21 days with the Prince of Persia and how Michael, a chief prince, came to help him in battle (Daniel 10:13). He tells Daniel he is here to warn and help him understand what is going to happen to his people at the ends of their days (Daniel 10:14). Daniel is speechless at first and than replies by stating how the visions have caused him great pains and how he is not worthy of speaking with the angel (Daniel 10:16-17). The angel tells him to be “strong and courageous” and to fight the Prince of Persia (Daniel 10:18-21). The result was Antiochus IV came back and destroyed Jerusalem and made the Jerusalem temple dedicated to the Olympian Zeus. Second Temple also included the invasion of Egypt by Epiphanies IV. Other key differs in Second Temple was they celebrated Dionysus’ festivals and there was a pagan alter in place of the temple and any jews who refused to follow Antiochus orders were killed.
