Psalms 23 Analysis

Psalms 23 is a popular yet, powerful scripture in the King James Version of the bible. Psalms 23 expresses deep comfort within our hearts. This scripture acknowledges us of how we should respond to the times of difficulty. Although it only has six verses, it expresses many literary terms. Brevity, imagery, emotion, subjectivity, and poetic language is demonstrated in Psalms 23. In this lyric poem, Psalms 23 indicates brevity, with a stanza of six literary verses. In verse one, “The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” demonstrates an imagination of a shepherd over his sheep. I, the sheep, can imagine God as my shepherd, my overseer, and my protector. Nevertheless, verse two conveys emotion in “I shall not want” into a feeling that I will not desire a want, I cannot have. Therefore, I feel warmth in my heart that I am provided, loved, covered, and protected by God. Moreover, this verse has subjectivity, that I will not want for anything because, my God will provide my every need as long as I trust and follow him as my leader. The poetic language is this literary verse, “the lord is my shepherd” is comparing God as being my overseer. Furthermore, “He leads me beside still waters” evokes a picture of a steady stream representing peace and a refreshing soul. Also, lying down in green pastures demonstrates plenty of rest and no worries in life. Verse two also signifies emotion, that God will give a peaceful heart and mind. He comforts me with peace within and he provides serenity and tranquility. Moreover, the poetic language, signifies the green pastures as being my nourishment for needs and the still waters representing my nourishment for peace.
