Psalm 25 Expository Essay

The week before I gave my sermon I settled on Psalm 25 and I decided to really sit with the text and meditate on it. I allowed myself the opportunity to really get to know the text. I focused on what Lammers- Gross called a personal conversation between the preacher and the text. What I found is that for the text I had bitten off more than I can chew. It was really three different segments. The first segment was about honor/shame, the second segment was about knowledge, and the third segment was about mercy. If I tried to preach the entire text I could skim the surface of all three of those important God-given subjects, but I would not be able to have a deeper conversation about any of them. I would be doing both the congregation and myself a disservice. I decided the waiting aspect of verse 3 would be my focus, because it is such an important part of the advent season. Psalm 25:3 said, “Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame; let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.” …show more content…
First, I started by exploring personal examples in my own life. It could be waiting for college, waiting for love, or even waiting for a calling. Then, I thought about the unique experience of waiting to hear again. When I was 14 I started to lose my hearing, by 19 I was wearing hearing aids, and by 21 I was legally deaf. My mother was a cochlear implant recipient, so despite being disappointed with my medical affliction I knew the possibility of a vast improvement in my life was right on the horizon. However, I was shocked to find out insurance was unwilling to pay for the surgery, because my lip reading scores were too high. My audiologist informed me that basically I was going to have to patiently wait to be deaf enough so insurance would approve the surgery. I had to wait two years before I could receive my God-given

From my own perspective, I have never seemed so displaced in my mind about this topic. Right from the beginning, I was challenged with the first of many problems the deaf community faces on a regular basis. While at school, Max would miss the morning announcements. There rarely was any visual aids or handouts that summarized the morning’s important announcements. It was worse, even in this case, that Max could not lip-read any one person either.…

I can’t imagine not being able to hear my baby cry for the first time or to have complications with understanding others. Though with I agree with getting it done I understand why the Deaf Community is against it. There is definitely nothing wrong with them and they don 't need to be fixed at all. I love how they are standing up as a community and loving themselves for who you are. Having a disabled brother I would not change a thing about him and even if there was an opportunity to do so I would not do it unless it benefited his health and life.…

Every Psalm that I have read thus far has shown me more and more about God’s grace and how we must give him praise every single day. Not just because of the sole fact that he is our Creator but, because every day each and every one of us go through so many things and he is always there for us no matter what. He is the only one who chooses between giving us life and death, and he is the only one who continuously shows us grace above all else. In Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need” (New Living Translation).…

In this chapter, David discusses the attitude and actions of a fool. One verse in this chapter is confusing. The verse states, “The fool says in his heart ‘there is no God.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good” (Ps. 14:1). This verse makes David sound arrogant because it appears that he claims that he is the only one who is righteous before God, and therefore he can wisely depict the state of the people around him.…

Rachel Gregory 1) In Isaiah 53, God is communicating to us about His suffering servant. This passage gives us insight to what is to happen to Jesus when He comes to the earth to take on our sins. The people of this time may not have known what a huge prophecy this passage was to one day fulfill, but we living in the days since Christ's coming can easily see that this is a foreshadowing of what is to come in the life of Jesus. 2)…

Psalm 143 is most widely known as being one of the seven Penitential Psalms. As Psalm 143 falls into this grouping, it also means that it is considered a lament of repentance. While there is not an obvious transgression that David, the writer of the Psalm, is begging for repentance for, it is clearly shown through his words that he needs God to intercede in his life and save him from his transgressions and predicaments. Through his imploring of God to save him, David does not lose hope—he still continues to praise God for the goodness he has done and will do. While, by the end of the psalm, the inflection has grown more optimistic, Psalm 143 still contains the vital ingredients of a lament.…

The Love of God God is the creator of all life and he is the highest of all powers, he embodies all ‘persons’ (The Father, The Son, and The Spirit). Although we cannot be as him, we should try to follow his guidance. In this world, it is easy to get wrapped in earthly things. We are humans, and many of times we fail by trying to hold a certain status, gain certain materialistic possessions, and cause great emotional/physical harm to one another. In my beliefs, that is not the way one should live.…
