Through the Partition of Poland, Frederick the Great annexes part of Poland. Poland is divided up between Prussia, Austria and Russia in 1772. Austria and Russia realize that if they work with Prussia, they can gain land and that is what they do. By winning northwestern Poland, Prussia obtained most of Poland’s trade which they used to their benefit. Prussia taxed the trade, making revenue and hurting Poland. In 1748, Prussia wins the war of Austrian Succession. Major powers in Europe questioned Maria Theresa’s right to succession to the realms of the House of Habsburg.
