Kristof wrote this great piece in response to members of congress debating weather to slash the food stamp program. He also explain how it affect household in America especially children. He state his complains clearly in his essay. He is annoyed by this situation. Children are going hungry and are malnourished in American and congress still want to cut food stamps. He state that he can expect malnourished kids in Africa because there are a developing country but we didn't expected this in america because we are wealthy as a country.
He believed that food stamps work in important ways because it reduce the number of children that is extremely poor. He is disagreeing with the slashing of food stamps and he thinks it's a shortsighted cruelty because food stamps are improving nutrition of young children and it also improves long-term outcomes.
I can see why congress want to reduce food stamp but I do not think it's fair for people who need it such as elderly, people with disability and children. But there are some people who abuse food stamps in america just because they can and sometimes they even brag about it. I know people who can work and they do not need the food stamps while other people in need and starving. We need to be more thorough and have a higher standard of who gets food stamps because I don't think it's fair for people like me who is a middle class citizen and paying taxes to feed people who are using it to party and waste it on drugs. They should reduce food stamps but they should be careful of who they give it
