We have witnessed John develop and grow not solely in academics at Providence but in character, intellectual integrity, and spirituality. He has gained the valuable trait of humility, recognizing that his peers offer important opportunities for learning as well as teachers and that listening is just as important as speaking. It was and will always be one of our best vacations. The visit included an educational tour of the Capitol and a visit with Mr. Gainer. John was in his glory as he is a big history fan. The highlight for John was not the fireworks or the tour as much as it was talking with Mr. Gainer and seeing his office. He shared information about what he did as Sergeant at Arms, being head of the Capitol Police and Illinois State Police and his start as a Chicago policeman. John asked questions, looked at the awards that covered his office walls and took it all in. He admired Mr. Gainer’s success and drive. Since that time we noticed his increased interest in his future and the different opportunities he sees in front of him. His focus was clear he wanted a success story he wanted to be “that person” and we believe he will
