Protests Against The National Anthem Analysis

Everyone knows America as the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave,” as stated in our national anthem. I find that as a complete joke. The fantasy of the American dreams lies in the hands of the rich, white and wealthy. If a person does not apply to any of the above, freedom lies nowhere in their future. The amount of oppression and separation this country holds for its own people is beyond words. Many citizens have taken notice of such discrimination and taken action. Protests against the National Anthem have begun to circulate around the country, showing: the injustice amongst many citizens of this so-called free land and how this Anthem only pertains to a certain aspect of the population. San Francisco 49ers player Colin Kaepernick’s protest had a huge impact on the dishonesty of the national anthem. Kaepernick began to “take a knee” during the national anthem in response to the social injustice throughout the country and the bloodshed of young black men and women under the hands of police. The number of lives lost and threatened by police brutality has dramatically increased over time, and it has been targeted towards the African American race. Police, on several accounts, have been caught on tape stating that “We only kill …show more content…
Standard oppression still stands today, and slavery was years ago. So why should a race be defined by the past that these same people gave to us? It was their ancestors who beat and whipped us. Their ancestors robbed us from our homes and separated us from our families to never be seen again. So, in response to their ancestors, they stereotype. They give us names and characteristics that have no correlation to the situation. “They” represents the actual free ones. The ones who do not have to deal with the daily harassment. The picket fenced livers and the Disney trip takers. But, by the anthem, this is the "land of the free and the home of the

Those who think Kaepernick kneeled to disrespect the flag, genuinely don’t comprehend the purpose. Over the years, many African Americans have been murdered, and didn’t find justice. Statistics show that nationwide, police shot and killed 492 people in the first six months of this year (Jenkins, Sullivan, Tate, Thebault, “Number of Fatal Shootings”). This article also states that twenty-seven unarmed people were fatally shot. On February 12, 2012, teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed.…

I believe that the main issue of weather it is right for NFL players to kneel during the National Anthem is majorly a racist issue. The proof behind this reasoning is that Collin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers quarterback stated that he was , "not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." Personally I disagree with his opinion. Holding your hand over your heart is a tradition that has been carried on for many years that honors what our country stands for, which is not oppressing colors of race. Although there are many opinions on that statement, America has many different races, cultures, and ethnicity throughout our nation.…
