If there was a way to translate messages more easily, this could have affected the spread of the Protestant Reformation in addition to spreading all sorts of other ideas originating all over the world. A limitation of the printing press was the regionalized nature of literature during the Protestant Reformation. Alliances between nations were some of the only connections between different groups of people and were often formed with nations of similar culture or language, causing isolation from most of the world. Spreading text required physical travel which relied on horses and ships at the time, neither of which were a fast option for travel. Although, even if there were faster means of travel, it would still be a challenge to translate the text into other languages. Analyzing technology in society is a difficult task that requires a lot of research and understanding of the past, current, and future states. A benefit to analyzing technology in society is the ability to enhance public awareness. By understanding the effects of a certain technology, inform people of how to use the technology safely and generally improve quality of life through the means of that technology. However, there are downsides when it comes to critically analyzing technology. The digital divide is the result of an expanding divide between people with and without technology. Certain nations on continents such as South America, Africa, and Asia have less infrastructure and support for new technology, especially electronics. This leads to inequities that continually suppress marginalized communities. By critically assessing technology, I can better understand the rapidly changing electronics industry.
